The emerging generation 3

In furtherance of the discourse I started on two days ago, I would like to state a few things we must do as people who want to impact the next generation. Before you tell me you don’t qualify, if you are anything between 28 and 35, let me state a few facts to open your eyes.

Most of the entertainers influencing this generation are under 35years old; the Mo-Hits crew (D’banj, Don Jazzy, etc), P-square, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Terry G, M.I., etc.

  •  Football, another hotspot for this generation, is filled with young people under 35, who are role models for today’s youth e.g. Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Rosicky, etc.

Do you need any more facts to prove to you that you are a role-model (an apostle) for this generation? Here are a few things I believe we MUST do.

  1.  We must Embrace technology: I know some of us still have the belief that the computer is an invention of the devil to promote the anti-Christ but the truth is all good and perfect gifts come from God, the Father of lights, in whom there is no darkness of any sort (Ref). we need to know how to use technology as a platform to engage this generation. Mobile phones are no longer just call receiving devices. They have become interaction points or portals where individuals can engage themselves.
  2. We must Embrace FUN as a tool to imbibe TRUTH: Young people love to have fun; older people pride themselves in their experience (bible ref). Is there anything scripturally wrong with having a good, no; a great time in church? Where did the youth get the impression that serving and loving God is boring? We gave it to them. Play is natural. It’s the way young people gather experience. I know a church that holds monthly concerts. Their church hall is packed to the brim with youth. They hosted the concert for about 8 straight weeks (every Sunday) and the place was still filled! You’d expect they would get tired and stop attending. No way! This proves to me that young people have a lot of energy they are looking to dissipate.

  3. We must Become versatile in weaving everlasting truth into entertainment: Read Deuteronomy and you’ll see how God expects us to use both formal and informal ways to get the timeless truths and principles of His kingdom into the lives of those who look up to us. Jesus entertained His crowd with stories but the purpose of the story-telling was clear; teach spiritual truth using simple analogies or stories.
  4. We must Craft new technologies: Technology can also be defined as our approach, skill, know-how, methodologies, and stratagem of completing tasks or objectives. Our technology (in the light of this new definition), must be upgraded. Some of our methods are no longer effective the way they are. How effective is our morning cry for example? Do you know how many people responded to your message? Or are we just shooting into the air hoping to hit any target?
  5. We must Learn how to attract and not repel young people: by creating an atmosphere where they can open up to us and not feel condemned or unwelcome.
  6. We must Populate/Surround the atmosphere with positive media
  7. We must Model the lifestyle we expect to see: They must do what we do not just what we say.
